For over 14 years, she has had the pleasure of assisting individuals like yourself on various aspects of their mental health journey. She identifies as a LGBTQ+ aligned provider. She also has extensive experience supporting individuals from diverse and underrepresented populations/communities.
Currently, she supports individuals and couples experiencing concerns such as: Workplace Stress, Caregiver Stress, Life Transitions, Relationship Issues, Family Conflict, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, other Life Stressors, and more.
Her approach includes person-centered, strength based, and trauma informed. As mental wellness is more than a session with a therapist. It is a lifestyle that must be tailored to the specific individual. As collaborators in your life’s journey, we will explore healthier ways to manage and maintain your overall mental health wellness.
Her main treatment modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. She also possesses a strong clinical background in crisis management, de-escalation, risk assessment in relation to suicidal and/or homicidal presentation, and safety planning to assist those with acute needs.
Outside of session, Laqwanda is the Founder of Healing Black Women; where she coordinates with 14 Contributors to create a safe space designed to encourage and promote all forms of wellness/healing for black women. She is also the Chief Editor of HealingBlackWomen.com
She is an established/nationally recognized speaker and has spoken on various platforms/panels with entities such as Eventbrite, Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Austin Black Pride, Environmental Protection Agency, Council on Social Work Minority Fellowship Program, Kaiser Permanente, and Entrepreneurs’ Organization and local government agencies to name a few. Her work as a Mental Health Advocate continued as the form Director of Outreach for the National Office of Mental Health America and through her current roles as a Board Member for two well establish Mental Health non-profits.
Laqwanda is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker, Life Coach, Reiki II Practitioner, Supervisee in Social Work, Resident Counselor. Her Clinical Supervisor is Merrie Maldonado, LCSW in the State of Virginia.
It is her hope that your sessions will be a safe space for you to learn, grow, and thrive. Currently, her schedule is open for telehealth sessions for adults or couples ages 18 and over residing in the state of Virginia.
